| WHY SIBLING RIVALRY IS OPTIONAL
Wednesday, August 25th
10:00 am
Watching siblings hurting each other, with words or fists,
is heart wrenching for parents who love them all. Imagine if it were
entirely avoidable... because it is. Find out how to avoid it, how to
stop it if it's already happening, and see what's really going on
between them.
Linda Clement, Parent Coach and publisher of www.RaisingParents.net, is visiting Traverse City from
Victoria, BC, Canada, to visit her newborn nephew, Nicholas. She leaves behind her husband of 25 years, and their two beautiful daughters, Janet,
21, and Fiona, 18 --who are currently roommates in an apartment and
didn't grow up hating each other...
There is no cost to attend this event.
Children are welcome.
Healthy shakes and teas will be available for
purchase.
Prospective
members who would like to meet the group are
welcome to attend these meetings, please feel free to RSVP
and

BOOK CLUB
| "You Should
Read Its Not That Bad"
Book Club
Tuesday, 8/31 6:30pm
In August we are reading Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout.
From Booklist:
“Hell. We’re always alone. Born alone. Die alone,” says Olive Kitteridge, redoubtable seventh-grade math teacher in Crosby, Maine. Anyone who gets in Olive’s way had better watch out, for she crashes unapologetically through life like an emotional storm trooper. She forces her husband, Henry, the town pharmacist, into tactical retreat; and she drives her beloved son, Christopher, across the country and into therapy. But appalling though Olive can be, Strout manages to make her deeply human and even sympathetic, as are all of the characters in this “novel in stories.” Covering a period of 30-odd years, most of the stories (several of which were previously published in the New Yorker and other magazines) feature Olive as their focus, but in some she is bit player or even a footnote while other characters take center stage to sort through their own fears and insecurities. Though loneliness and loss haunt these pages, Strout also supplies gentle humor and a nourishing dose of hope. People are sustained by the rhythms of ordinary life and the natural wonders of coastal Maine, and even Olive is sometimes caught off guard by life’s baffling beauty.
Read
this month's book and come to discuss the ideas
in the book. This is a friendly and lively
group. Just a fun
way to explore some new ideas and make new
friends.
